When I was young, in the 1950’s, just after the war and before television and other distractions, family picnics on Sunday afternoons were very popular. Sometimes it seemed as if the whole village was spread out in the surrounding woodlands. In this painting I have recreated this memory, while parents are busy preparing the spread, we children were free to go off and play football or cricket.
