The sailfish is a member of the billfish family that includes swordfish and marlin.
They are popular with the line-fishing fraternity because they put up a strenuous and energetic fight.
Sailfishes swim and hunt in the open waters of the warmer oceans and can grow up to 1.5 meters long.
They get their name from the enormous dorsal fin that is only raised when they attack their prey of anchovies, sardines or herring, the bill is used to swipe the prey to stun them rather than piercing.
