Potato cods are from the family of Groupers and are named for the distinctive potato shaped markings on their bodies. Potato cod can reach 2 meters in length and weigh up to 100kg.They are found in tropical and subtropical waters and I encountered them on a table coral reef in the Ningaloo national park in North western Australia. Here they are protected from the ravages of spear fishing.
