Grey wolves attacking a Bison

80cm x 60cm
Cobra water mixable oils on textured board.

Grey wolves can pose a threat to the American bison, particularly calves and older or weaker ones that become separated from the herd. While healthy, adult bison can usually defend themselves, wolf packs will target any weakness.
Both wolves and bison have long been subjected to persecution in the U.S.A. When settlers hunted and depleted the bison, wolves turned their attention to their grazing cattle with obvious consequences.
Both species are now recognised as being vitally important to the eco system.
