Scientists have identified 2000 species of jellyfish. They have no brain, heart or blood, instead they have a means of pumping sea water through their bodies to extract oxygen. They consist of about 95% water and although beautiful, fascinating and elegant in water, they reduce to a mushy blob when removed. Jellyfish are thought to have been around for 600 million years and can be found in every ocean and sea on the planet. Some are microscopic and the largest has a diameter of 2 meters. They use stinging cells in their tentacles to paralyse their prey.
