Mobular rays breaching
89cm x 61cm
Cobra water mixable oil on textured board.
Mobular rays are very similar to Manta Rays but they gather in large schools of up to 1000 fishes. Their unique characteristic is their ability to breach
by jumping 2 meters out of the water. Scientists are still not sure of the reason for this behaviour but believe it is a means of ridding their bodies of parasites.
They sometimes land on their bellies but can also somersault and land on their backs. The multiple breaching that I show in this painting is not unusual.
