The unsuspecting crab

76cm x 61cm
Cobra oils on textured board

What a magnificent creature is the octopus, it has 9 brains and 3 hearts! There is one mini-brain for each of the tentacles that enables it to move each arm independently and the 9th brain controls the entire nervous system. One heart circulates its blue blood around the body, the other two pass the blood over the gills to oxygenate it.
The octopus has no shell or skeleton and swims by propelling itself with water jets. They are extremely intelligent.
They feed on crabs, snails and small fishes and all species of octopus have venom which they inject with their beak. In turn they fall prey to sea lions, seals, sharks and people.
